Blacks in Technology Entrepreneurship Week: Coming February 2012

NOVEMBER 6-13, 2011, is Blacks in Technology Entrepreneurship Week — highlighting the contributions of African-American businesspeople in an industry that could certainly benefit from a little more of their participation.

The wonderfully named BITE Week will occur in Durham, North Carolina, and will focus in particular on African-American residents of the Tar Heel State who are making significant contributions in the technology industry. The kickoff event will be hosted by Katrina M. Harrell, the founder of Your Simple Bookkeeper, a business-accounting firm headquartered in nearby Clayton, North Carolina. Harrell was one of the first entrepreneurs brought into 100 Urban Entrepreneurs’ funding-and-mentoring program, and she’s also the head of 100UE North Carolina, the local chapter of 100UE’s nationwide movement.

Care to attend the kickoff event? It’ll be held at Bay 7 in Durham’s American Tobacco District. Things kick off at 6 p.m.; Harrell’s stated goal for the event is to raise $10,000 to help endow an entrepreneurship program at one of North Carolina’s historically black colleges. Click here to register for the event; admission is just $50. Have any questions ahead of time? Call or e-mail Harrell (919-438-BITE; katrina.harrell@100UE.org), or follow hashtag #BITEWeek on Twitter.
